What is the MCSA Cert All About?
The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) credential proves that you have the skills to successfully implement, manage, and troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows® 2000-based operating environments, including Windows .NET Server.

An MCSA candidate should have six to 12 months of experience working with a desktop operating system, a network operating system, and an existing network infrastructure.

MCSA candidates are required to pass three core exams and one elective exam.

As an information technology (IT) professional, you have a choice of earning two different credentials to highlight your Microsoft Windows® 2000 or Microsoft Windows® XP knowledge and expertise--Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

Which certification is right for you and your job role?

Choose the MCSA credential if you:
Manage, support, and troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows® server-based operating environments.

Have six to 12 months of experience managing and supporting a desktop server and network operations in an existing network infrastructure.

Job title examples include:

systems administrator, network administrator, information systems administrator, network operations analyst, network technician, or technical support specialist

Choose the MCSE credential if you:
Plan, design, and implement Microsoft Windows server solutions and architectures.

Have at least one year of experience analyzing business and technical requirements, and planning, designing, and implementing solutions with Microsoft products and technologies.

Job title examples include: systems engineer, network engineer, systems analyst, network analyst, or technical consultant.

MCSA candidates are required to pass THREE CORE Exams and ONE ELECTIVE Exam
