The Different Types of Massage

Swedish Massage

This is the basic method used in traditional massage using long flowing strokes, rubbing, tapping, deep kneading, and includes movement of the joints.

Rolfing

is a deep penetrating massage technique working with the connective tissue inorder to help the patient increase their range of motion, improve their balance, and provides greater ease of posture by helping to recover proper body alignment.

Reflexology

is a therapeutic touch technique in which the whole body can be treated by working on reflex zones in the feet and the hands. Applying just the right amount of pressure to specific areas can help to release blockages.

Shiatsu

This technique involves the use of firm pressure on specific acupuncture points along the meridian channels inorder to stimulate or sedate (balance) the flow of vital energy throughout the body.

Aromatherapy Massage

This combines the aromatic essential oils of plants with the massge oil to further aid in the treatment of ailments, and to help reduce stress, rejuvenate, revitalize, and can offer a calming effect.

Tigger Point Therapy

What are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are specific spots in the muscles and tendons which can cause pain, and which may radiate pain into other areas of the body. They are small areas of spasm that range in size from a marble to golf ball, depending on the chronicity and nature of the initial injury. Trigger points may be caused by a sudden trauma (e.g. from falling, or car accident) or from repeated use of a paticular muscle. Sometimes, they may develop over time from chronic muscular tension in an area. Chronic spasm of the involved muscle or muscle groups can cause a decrease in vascular flow and therefore, toxic waste (aka: lactic acid) gets trapped within the muscle. Trigger Point therapy involves the direct pressure with the thumb, fingers, elbow, or trigger point instrument (aka: T-Bar), which will often deactivate it, thus breaking the pain-spasm-pain cycle and releiving the pain it causes. When direct pressure is applied to the area, the pain may radiate causing intense pain, but as the point releases the pain will also ease. The increase in blood flow will flush out the toxins into the blood stream and may cause flu like symptoms, such as; headache, nausea, diarrhea, and sometimes a metal taste in the mouth. It is important to drink plenty of water after this treatment. This will help to minimize the symptoms.
