To Whom It May Concern:

We recently retained Jim Weaver to re-stain our home at The Highlands in Gearhart, Oregon. Even though his bid was substantially higher we felt that his method of preparation and application was better than other bidders.

The Oregon coastal weather is very hard on homes. Our residence is especially subject to the hard winter winds and rain so it is important that our home received complete and deep stain coverage.

In addition to the basic staining of the house and deck, Jim's attention to details of the eaves, railings, downspouts, etc provided us with a very thorough job.

We certainly would recommend Jim Weaver Custom Painting to anyone who is looking for a quality paint job!

Ron and Marcy Tonkin of Tonkin Automobiles in Portland, Oregon

See pictures below.

For the love of cars! Ron Tonkin is the largest new and used car dealer in the State of Oregon!
Ron Tonkins deck in the highlands is probably the largest deck anyone has ever seen! The house and deck were really in bad shape before we started the job. Moss, mold and mildew were everywhere including the roof!

For the deck we custom mixed the color of Cabots Weathering Silver Gray and mixed each gallon one to one with a gallon of Cabots clear 7400 decking stain. This method achieved the same semi-transparent appearance effect as the house except with the walkable strength and durability of Cabots oil-based Decking stain applied to the deck!

To give you a basic idea of price, understand the deck and house had to be completely stripped of the old stain to bare wood and the deck entirely sanded down to bare wood and 26 gallons of stain costing $30.00 dollars per gallon was used to stain the deck! Thirty one gallons of Cabots Weathering Silver Gray were used on the house and chimneys! Because of heavy pressure washing to strip old stain, denatured alcohol is used to dissapate moisture from the deck and house to help force dry the moisture content out of the wood.

The deck alone, with stripping, sanding prep, dust removal and staining took 3 men three weeks to complete including priming and double coating the handrails by brush. The roof was pressured washed for 8 full days to remove all the moss build-up from the Italian brick tiles. The house was also stripped to bare wood and took 3 weeks too for a total of 6 weeks! All work was done by hand, brushing the stain, primer and paint!

These pictures above of Rons job were just taken in May of 2003. The job is now two years old and the deck and house still look great! We hope the stain work will last for six years. Decks are recommended re-staining 2 to 4 years using Cabots decking stains. Yes; its a rich mans look and difficult to maintain the forces of nature!

Stains are not as tough as paint and-as you can see above-Ron and Marcys house sit on a hill top knoll just beyond the Pacific Ocean so weather storms really pound his house hard!
