This is the oceanfront home of inventor Craig Tillitson. Mr. Tillitson invented the product "New Skin" liquid bandaid.

Lacquer is a translucent amber colored clear finish applied over stained and clear wood in the interior of homes. It's also made in pigmented opaque sheens and looks like paint but its not.

Most lacquered finishes are polished with silicone Lemon products. Silicone gets trapped into wood grain pores (especially Oak) and can create failure to new re-finishing coats from silicone impurities left underneath. We clean silicone and kitchen grease from wood surfaces using diluted ammonia then prep seal with clear shellac sanding sealer before applying new lacquer finishes.

Two coats of shellac-based sanding sealer are sprayed first followed by two coats of lacquer based sanding sealer. When dry sanding sealer is carefully sanded using 240-grit sandpaper. With Oak we lovingly (hand rub) sanding sealer powders into open grain and leave it as additional filler that re-melts when finish coats are applied.

Next we use a coat of furniture grade pre-catalyzed high gloss lacquer applied hot that melts the existing dust powders deeper into the grain. This makes certain Oak grains open pores are filled level and impervious to future moisture failure common in coastal environments. Mixing using a careful lacquer-thinning ratio first steps the finish utilizing special reducers into the lacquer to slow the dry cure time. High moisture humidity factors and air flow need to be controlled!

We final coat the wood using satin sheen lacquer to draw the translucent effect of the higher gloss to the surface above making your eyes swim in the beauty of the finish! We rub the dried finish with #0000 steel wool using the same direction of wood grain to eliminate scratching. The wool is unrolled and rubbed over the dry surface very lightly to remove any imperfections.

The final step is making the finish even more beautiful by waxing the lacquer with silicone to a gorgeous polish for completion! Your cabinets are now as smooth and perfect as your expensive dining room table and also moisture impervious.

Please don't try to work with lacquer by yourself. Lacquer is highly flammable and can blush from air moisture content and needs to be finished above 70° conditions. It takes years to perfect the mixing ratio balance to create lacquer as smooth as a piano finish. During the job we use dehumidifiers to remove moisture content and purifiers to remove lacquer fumes from your home.

We lacquer finish woods great and in my opinion, our methods are even better than pre-finished factory jobs. Our lacquer shines better than some high quality furniture's. We can also lacquer doors, wood casing trim and bathrooms throughout the entire home.
